Interaxon at USC
Our Officers:

Austin Tovar (he/him)
Co-President
4th Year Psychology and Neuroscience Major
I joined because I wanted to get more involved within both the neuroscience community at USC and the greater LA area. I love that I’m able to teach subjects I’m so passionate about, work with students across the city, and I couldn’t have joined a better group of people!

Cindy Li (she/her)
Co-President
4th year Neuroscience Major
I was involved in a similar educational outreach to the greater LA area club in high school and was searching for a club at USC that aligned with those same objectives. Interaxon seemed like the perfect fit and opportunity for me to meet people in the same major and apply what I had learned in my classes to make lessons more digestible for high school students interested in STEM.

Amanda Lopez (she/her)
Vice President
4th year Neuroscience Major, Minor in SSJJ, PDP MHA
A. I love teaching! B. I decided to study neuroscience because I was lucky enough to get to attend an outreach program in middle school sponsored by AAUW that taught me about neuroscience and neurobiology. Interaxon gives me the opportunity to give back and help other young students discover their own interests in STEM/neuroscience the way that I discovered mine.

Chinedu Orji (he/him)
Treasurer
3rd year Neuroscience Major
I wanted to go into research about motivation and behaviour and in my first week of freshman year I heard about this neuroscience club and thought this is the best way to learn more about it.

Nadeem Karim (he/him)
Secretary
4th year Neuroscience Major
At first, I joined Interaxon because I wanted a direct way to connect with other neuroscience students at USC. However, I found that the influences and connections we made with the K-12 students during each Neurocamp to be even more significant, with some of them even attending USC themselves as neuroscience students. You tend to feel the positive impact you have on aspiring students in STEM as an Interaxon member, which is more gratifying than you could imagine.

AJ Escobar (he/him)
Director of External Affairs
3rd Year Neuroscience Major, PDP Medical Gero
I joined USC Interaxon to help impact the latino community in South Central. Events like Neurocamp really allow me to connect with the students and opportunities like presenting in Spanish are great ways to inspire and meet students where they are at. Couldn't recommend joining the Interaxon community enough!

Rushmia Hossain (she/her)
Director of Internal Affairs
3rd year Psychology Major
I joined Interaxon to explore my interest in neuroscience and gain a deeper understanding of the workings of the brain. I was searching for a community of individuals who share my enthusiasm for STEM and enjoy discussing scientific ideas. I was excited to join a group that values both learning and outreach. Interaxon stood out as a place where I could connect with others who are just as curious about neuroscience and its real-world applications.

Alaina Wong (she/her)
Neurocamp Director
2nd year HPDP Major
I joined Interaxon because of my interest in serving my local community --- community service has always been a part of my life and I wanted to continue that work in college. Being a part of Interaxon has been such a rewarding experience and I am so grateful for the opportunity to continue to contribute.

Amy Murphy (she/her)
Project Leader
3rd year Neuroscience Major, Minor in East L&C
As a neuroscience major, there are many topics I wanted to discover, and sharing that passion to prospective students at local schools was the cherry on top! Thanks to Interaxon, I not only was able to connect with students who are interested in pursuing STEM, but I learned more about my major and what I wanted to pursue! In addition, the board members were so inviting, so I feel like I have a little family at USC!

Salma Durra (she/her)
Project Leader
2nd year Gerontology Masters Candidate
I joined InterAxon because I love teaching! I’ve been tutoring STEM since high school and it’s always been amazing to see how excited students get about learning. What I love most about InterAxon is the community. It’s full of some of the brightest, kindest, and most passionate people I’ve met. Getting to give back to LA, the city I grew up in, through science outreach only makes it even more meaningful to me:)

Joanna Lu (she/her)
Project Leader
4th year Neuroscience Major, Minor in Theatre
I discovered this club on the USC organizations website when I was in high school, and I wrote about this in my why USC essay!

Phil Ko (he/him)
Project Leader
4th year Major in Psychology, Minor in Natural Science
I joined Interaxon because I was interested in how Interaxon researches information, consolidates it, and emphasizes understandability when presenting. Because Interaxon caters its presentations to teaching students various neuroscience topics, the clarity standard at which Interaxon presents inspires me to find such thresholds in my own work. Moreover, as a Project Leader, I get hands-on experience finding the level of complexity for different topics ranging from emotions to the interaction between video games and brain pathways. I really enjoy it!

Aarushi Kumar (she/her)
Project Leader
2nd year Neuroscience and Flute Performance Major
I joined Interaxon to find a community of people equally, if not more, passionate about STEM and neuroscience. It's hard to make meaningful connections in the classroom, but Interaxon creates an environment that fosters connections among students at USC as well as with connecting the students of the LA community to college students. The connections Interaxon fosters are so important for me to continue my love for STEM as well as to share that love with my community.
