ABOUT: LA-HIP's goal is to provide students who identify as an underrepresented minority in medicine and science with the opportunity to perform hands-on laboratory-based research and to support them in their quest to become scientists or physician scientists.

ELIGIBILITY: Students applying in the fall/early spring of their junior year of high school, and who are underrepresented in medicine and science (as defined by NIH).

Bugs Jr. Program
USC Bridge Institute
ABOUT: BUGS Jr. is a program that partners students with a USC Faculty Member and the members of their laboratory, often graduate students or postdoctoral fellows, to perform hands-on research in state-of-the-art research labs at USC.
ELIGIBILITY: Current high school students or incoming college freshman.

Young Research Scholars Program
USC Dornsife
​ABOUT: USC YRP is an opportunity for rising seniors to gain real-world scientific research experience by completing hands-on research projects with the guidance of a graduate student mentor.
ELIGIBILITY: Current junior/rising senior in high school. Must live in Los Angeles and attend a school in Los Angeles, Lynwood, Compton, or Inglewood School Districts (includes charter schools).

Kaiser Permanente SYEP - LAUNCH

ABOUT: KP LAUNCH is a paid internship program that combines working at one of our KP facilities with weekly Education Days, providing a valuable, multi-faceted experience in a healthcare-related career field. Every effort will be made to match the participant with a supervisor and department in their field of interest.
ELIGIBILITY: Must be older than 16 by the start date of the program and currently enrolled in high school. The program gives priority to Junior or Senior high school students, but this should not discourage others from applying.

​ABOUT: City of Hope's Roberts Summer Student Academy allows students to select their own research project according to their areas of interest, and will spend 10 weeks working full-time as a member of a biomedical research team.

Short-Term Research Experience Program to Unlock Potential (STEP-UP)
NIH - Various Institutions
​ABOUT: STEP-UP is a federally funded program under the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that aims to provide summer research internships to students from underrepresented backgrounds in biomedical research, particularly focusing on areas related to diabetes, digestive, and kidney diseases, managed by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), giving students a chance to gain hands-on research experience and potentially pursue careers in biomedical science.
ELIGIBILITY: Be a U.S. Citizen, non-citizen national, or permanent legal resident. Must be over 16 years of age and be in your junior or senior year of high school. Must have above a 3.0 GPA to apply
